Microblading by Caitlin

What is microblading?

Microblading - similiar to brow tattooing - is a semi-permanent brow treatment in which fine hair-like fine strokes of ink are implanted into the skin in fine using a hand tool with a blade formed of tiny needles. These super fine hair-like strokes give a such a natural appearance that you wouldn't know they weren't your natural brows!

This treatment is great for those who suffer from hair loss/over-plucked brows, but equally a good option or anyone wanting to thicken their brows, add more depth/colour, or even just to create more of an even, enhanced appearance.

Microblading lasts 1-3 years depending on skin type, maintenance, sun exposure & lifestyle.

"Is microblading suitable for me?"

The most suitable skin type to get the best results for microblading is dry skin with tight pores. Skin types in which Microblading will not be suitable include:

  • Excessive oily skin and/or very large pores. Extremely oily skin types may reject the pigment or strokes may heal powdery/blurred/grey in tone with loss of detail. It may need frequent touch-ups.

  • Heavily sun-damaged skin.

  • Very sensitive or problematic skin. Skin conditions like EczemaPsoriasisRosacea, heavy Melasma etc will affect retention and longevity of microbladed brows.

Those unsuitable for microblading:

  • You must be 18 years of age or over.

  • You must not be on medication for acne (Accutane). If you have previously taken Accutane, you must have stopped taking this medication for 12 months before a microblading session.

  • Under no circumstances should you have this treatment if you are pregnant/breastfeeding, have type 1 or 2 diabetes/chemotherapy/radiation/cancer. If you have any allergies/disorders/disabilities, please let me know upon enquiry.

  • If you have had your brows tattooed/micro-bladed before, they must have been done at least one year before your booking & they must have significantly faded.

FAQ: "Does it hurt?"

Microblading can be uncomfortable depending on your pain threshold. You are numbed at the beginning and through out the treatment to keep you as comfortable as possible - many clients actually fall asleep having it done! Please do not use your own numbing cream as this can affect the end result. Red heads, blondes & oily/fair skin types may experience more swelling and redness than normal skin types.

Microblading Pre and Aftercare

Pre Procedure Advice

  • Avoid any caffeine or alcohol the day before and on the day of your treatment. This includes both caffinated and decaf coffee/tea and fizzy juice.

  • Avoid any activity that will cause you to sweat on the day of your treatment.

  • Do not take Aspirin, Fish oil, Coumadin, Vitamin E or Ibuprofen 48-72 hours prior unless medically advised. Paracetamol is fine.

  • You have to have stopped taking acne medication (Accutane) for one year - no exceptions.

  • Do not have fake tan/sunburn on your face/brows on the day of your treatment.

  • No sun 30 days prior and post treatment (re-touch also).

  • It is also recommended to wait at least 30 days if you have them tinted/waxed after the procedure, so you're fully healed.

Aftercare Advice

Following your microblading aftercare is essential to ensure your new eyebrows heal perfectly. Do not let any water, lotion, soap, or makeup touch your eyebrow area during the first seven days after your microblading procedure.

Day 1 (Day of treatment)

  • 2-3 hours after treatment, gently clean the area with a very small amount of sterile water on a cotton pad. This should be just barely damp, not wet. Also, apply a very thin breathable layer of Bepanthen cream. This is a gentle antiseptic cream which assists in the skin’s natural healing process. It will prevent infections and scabbing and will hydrate and soothe the tattooed area. Do this every two hours today to avoid build-up of blood/lymph on the area. Make sure your hands are clean before touching your brows.

Day 2 & 3

  • You can stop wiping your brows with sterile water now. Continue to apply the Bepanthen every few hours at least 4 times each day on days 2 and 3. Brows should not appear greasy, glossy or shiny. If they do, you have used too much.

Do not use aggressive movement/manipulation of the skin – be gentle.

Continue to use the aftercare ointment for 14 days post-treatment, using less as the days go on.

Avoid the following during all 14 days following your microblading procedure:

  • Increased sweating (any form of excercise)

  • Swimming, hot sauna, hot bath, or Jacuzzi

  • Sun tanning or salon tanning

  • Any laser or chemical treatments or peelings, and/or any creams containing Retin-A or Glycolic acid on the face or neck

  • Drinking alcohol in excess, as it may lead to slow healing of wounds

  • Touching of the eyebrow area except for when rinsing and applying the post-care cream with a cotton swab

  • Itching and flaking may appear during the first seven days post-microblading procedure. However, experience has shown that by following these after-care instructions, these symptoms may quickly disappear.
